The present invention discloses a method for improving the surface colour andthickness of crustlayer of breads made with a breadmaker. The method includes using an aluminiumfoil to coverfully (or partially) the side of the baking pan of a breadmaker, or any othermaterials that are ableto reduce the heat radiation or transmission from the heating element to theside of baking pan,which is the side facing the heating element. The aluminium foil, or othercovering material, isbelieved to reduce the direct heating radiation from the heating element in abreadmaker and thusbe able to reduce the darkness and thickness of the bread crust. This methodresults in breadswith a thin crust layer and attractive golden brown colour.
