Disclosed are a composition and a method for predicting a treatment response to a therapeutic agent for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. One aspect provides a composition for predicting a response to methylphenidate treatment in a subject with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, the composition containing a reagent capable of detecting an rs2284411 polymorphic site of a polynucleotide coding for glutamate receptor, ionotropic, N-methyl D-aspartate 2B (GRIN2B). Another aspect provides a method for predicting a response to methylphenidate treatment in a subject with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and a method for selecting a subject, who is likely to be responsive to a methylphenidate treatment, from the subjects with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.
