The present invention relates to an anode active material for a lithium secondary battery, a method for manufacturing the same, and a lithium secondary battery containing the same. Provided is an anode active material for a lithium secondary battery, a method for manufacturing the same, and a lithium secondary battery containing the same, wherein the anode active material comprises spherical carbon particles; a first carbon coating layer placed on the surface of the carbon particles; a silicon coating layer placed on the first carbon coating layer and containing silicon nanoparticles; and a second carbon coating layer placed on the silicon coating layer. The anode active material for a lithium secondary battery has larger capacity than an existing commercial carbon-based anode active material and excellent lifetime and output characteristics.
