The present invention provides a method and a system for summarizing a document reflecting relative characteristics of the document. The method comprises the steps of: modeling a target document and background documents as a graph; clustering sentences based on similarity among the sentences; and ranking the sentences including at least one of common characteristics and unique characteristics among the target document and the background documents.
