PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a document summarization device capable of flexibly coping with limitation on the number of letters. PSOLUTION: The document summarization device includes: a sentence abbreviation device 11 for abbreviating sentences in an input document by a plurality of designated abbreviation ratios to output original sentences and abbreviated sentences; a sentence score decision device 12 for deciding sentence scores based on positional information scores, which are found based on the sentence abbreviation ratios, sentence appearance positional information, and input parameters, and word scores, which are obtained by referring to a word score database 2 and serve as criteria showing weights of words constituting a sentence, for the original sentences and the abbreviated sentences output from the sentence abbreviation device 11; and a sentence selection device 13 for selecting a combination of sentences, which give the highest sum of the sentence scores decided by the sentence score decision device 12 under the input letter number limitation, as a summary.
