A method of masking mounting holes (14) of rims (12) moved on a conveyor (18) of a rim coater, the method comprising the step of determining location and number of unmasked mounting holes (14). According to the invention, a first unmasked fastening bore (14) of a rim (12) is approached and the first unmasked fastening bore (14) is masked with a first masking element (36) by means of a handling device (32). Only in the subsequent step, a second unmasked mounting hole (14) of the same rim (12) is approached and the second unmasked mounting hole (14) with a second masking element (36) by means of the handling device (32) masked.
