The present invention relates to methods for the production of functional effector polypeptide derivatives (e.g., hormones and receptor ligands) incorporated into a different protein support (e.g., antibody supports). The methods involve modifying the effector polypeptide with a combinatorial library of terminal linker sequences, inserting the modified sequences into the host support, and then performing the separation of functional derivatives from the modified polypeptide sequence library incorporated into the host support. As examples, the invention also provides specific functional derivatives of leptin, scfsh and screlaxin incorporated into an antibody support, as well as therapeutic applications of such functional fusion molecules.
