Monoclonal antibody specific for the S. aureus alpha toxin, in which the variable region of the antibody light chain comprises SEQ ID NO: 1 in the CDR1 region, SEQ ID NO: 2 in the CDR2 region and SEQ ID NO: 3 in the CDR3 region, and wherein the antibody heavy chain variable region comprises SEQ ID NO: 4 in the CDR1 region, SEQ ID NO: 5 in the CDR2 region, and SEQ ID NO: 6 in the CDR3 region, or a fragment or mutein thereof capable of binding to the S. aureus alpha toxin, wherein the fragment is a Fab or F (ab ') 2 fragment or a mixture thereof; and in which the mutein has no more than 5 conservative substitutions, in which a conservative substitution is the substitution of an amino acid that belongs to a particular physicochemical group with an amino acid that belongs to the same physical chemical group, in which the antibody, fragment or its mutein is able to prevent the formation of abscesses caused by an infection with S. aureus.
