The present invention relates to an illuminating system for producing an illumination pattern for measuring the cornea of an eye and in particular for determining the topography of said cornea. The solution should enable distance-independent measurements. The illuminating system according to the invention for determining the topography of the cornea of an eye consists of an illuminating unit and a unit for producing an illumination pattern, wherein the illuminating unit consists of a plurality of illuminating modules.
