According to the present invention, an apparatus and a method for managing a phase change memory by using error detection and error correction codes are disclosed. When the error detection and correction codes are used, error occurrence can be reduced by uniformly maintaining the number of writing in the whole memory cell as much as possible compared to specific durability of a cell while minimizing degradation due to application of a wear leveling technique since wear leveling can be variously applied based on the number of errors occurring in data reading.
