Method and apparatus for assessing the collective health of multiple process control systems

Assessing a collective health score 1204 of a plurality of process control systems includes automatically and periodically assessing a risk for each of the process control systems, scoring the health of each process control system within a health score scale fixed by an upper limit and a lower limit. The health score is based on the assessed risk for each process control system. A user selects a menu item from a navigation menu 1200 which specifies higher and lower levels of integration of the health scores, and a collective health score 1204 of the process control systems associated with the selected menu item is presented. The integration level may be enterprise level, geographic area, location or product line. The collective health score may comprise a weighted average according to a number of input device signal tags of the controllers. Unread knowledge based articles (KBAs), uninstalled software updates, open action alerts, open service calls and obsolete, unsupported hardware/software or other risk factors decrease the process control system's health score.
