Head-mountable apparatus

A head mountable display or HMD (10, fig ) has a head orientation or tracking detector to detect a current orientation of the HMD in use. The HMD displays video material from a virtual viewpoint dependent upon the detected orientation which is varied in dependence upon head orientation detection. This variation in viewpoint can be selectively enabled or disabled, for example when a user is lying down or within a predetermined range of orientations. The head tracking detector may be selectively enabled or disabled.
