To provide excellent surface cleaning compositions including environmentally desirable solvent components that function at least as excellently as d-limonene.SOLUTION: The present invention provides a hard surface cleaning composition including an alkyl amide solvent, derived from renewable bio-based resources. The cleaning composition comprises an anionic surfactant amine salt, a saturated Cto Calkyl amide solvent, a cosolvent, a neutralizing agent, and water. The composition contains less than 0.5 mass% of d-limonene, can remove food red stains containing up to 20 percent protein, and also functions as an asphalt removal composition.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
