To provide a safety device for a passenger conveyor, which is able to facilitate inspection work, and to provide an inspection method for a safety device for a passenger conveyor.SOLUTION: In a safety device for a passenger conveyor, a shoe 22 is rotatable around a shoe shaft 31 provided on an arm 23. The shoe 22 is provided with a first surface 32 and a second surface 33 different from each other. A first distance a from the axis of the shoe shaft 31 to the first surface 32 is longer than a second distance b from the axis of the shoe shaft 31 to the second surface 33. A ratchet pole 25 is kept in a released position by bringing the first surface 32 into contact with a drive chain 14, thereby placing the shoe 22 on a drive chain 14 and is able to reach an engaging position by bringing the second surface 33 opposite the drive chain 14.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
