PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a safety device for a passenger conveyor and the like capable of detecting a passenger walking on a passenger conveyance part for conveying passengers on a passenger conveyor which is at a low cost and which has little restraint of installation.SOLUTION: A safety device for a passenger conveyor includes: at least one sound sensor (6) which detects foot-step sound of a passenger walking on a passenger conveyance part for conveying passengers of a passenger conveyor and which is provided along a travelling path of the passenger conveyance part; a foot-step sound detection part (12) which detects the walk of a passenger by identifying foot-step sound data based on a data pattern or period of a sound signal acquired at each sound sensor; and a walking passenger position detection part (16) which determines a position of the passenger who is walking from a signal level of the foot-step sound data based on the sound signal from each sound sensor and the detected position of the sound sensor.
