It is a method of producing a cross-linked gel. the method comprises the steps of: (a) combining (i) water, (ii) alginic acid, alginates or mixtures thereof, (iii) carboxymethylcellulose, (iv) a calcium, magnesium or zinc salt, (v) a surfactant nonionic and (vi) fragrance to form a gel having a surface; and (b) contacting an additional aqueous solution of a calcium, magnesium or zinc salt with the surface of said gel.
