A portable and compact umbrella according to the present invention includes an extendable and retractable umbrella rod to change its length, where the extendable umbrella rod has a means of protection disposed on one side of the same and a fixing projection located on the other side thereof, a cable element having both ends communicating with each other and a defined reception space therein, the reception space being divided by a cylindrical winding unit, the unit winder having an inner space formed therein so that the extendable umbrella rod is retracted and received into the inner space, the winder unit having an outer space formed outside it so that the guard element is wrapped around the unit winder and received in outer space.
