The invention relates to a vehicle wheel suspension having a suspension spring (5) and having an additional spring element (11), connectable in series with said suspension spring, for altering the spring stiffness of the wheel suspension and of the ride height of the vehicle body (1) above the roadway, which additional spring element is not formed as a fluid spring and is arranged in a working chamber (7) of a hydraulic cylinder (6), which working chamber can be hydraulically completely isolated by means of an isolating valve (9) and the volume of which working chamber can, when the isolating valve (9) is open, be varied through activation of a vehicle drive unit with braked vehicle wheels by means of the braking support angle and/or drive support angle, by virtue of hydraulic medium being able to flow through the opened isolating valve (9). A supporting piston (6b) of the hydraulic cylinder (6) is supported on the vehicle body (1), and the suspension spring (5) is supported on a hollow cylinder (6a), which guides the supporting piston, of the hydraulic cylinder (6). Preferably, the hydraulic cylinder (6) and the suspension spring (5) are dimensioned and arranged such that the suspension spring (5) is, in the case of a minimum working chamber volume of the hydraulic cylinder (6), supported virtually directly on the vehicle body (1), with the additional spring element (11) being functionally bypassed.
