Disclosed is a method for early warning of a failure of a converter valve. The method records the time information of the status indicator signal fed back by the respective thyristor control units (TCUs) of the converter valve, within a predetermined time range, and using a bias statistical method for each piece of the time information. Performing statistics and comparisons, marking a thyristor level corresponding to a bias whose bias exceeds a predetermined value, and determining the likelihood of failure of the thyristor according to the marking result. Also disclosed is a failure early warning system for a converter valve. The system includes a register array used to store thyristor level bias data of the converter valve, and a high speed processor used to process the status indicator signal fed back by the TCU using a bias statistics method. The solution of the present invention can identify the thyristor level which is relatively probable failure, achieve early warning and provide reference for equipment replacement, thereby reducing the possibility of stopping the DC system due to the failure of the thyristor level It can provide reference for optimizing the equipment performance and circuit design of the converter valve.
