FIELD: medicine.;SUBSTANCE: invention relates to laboratory diagnostics, medical immunology and microbiology and aims at determining total antimicrobial activity and total activity of antimicrobial peptides (AMP) in clinical samples of blood serum. Method for determining total antimicrobial activity of blood serum and activity of a fraction of antimicrobial peptides of whey with a molecular weight of less than 100 kDa is that samples of whole whey and said fraction are taken, is mixed in test tubes with a suspension of microorganisms, incubated for 2 hours at temperature of 32 degrees on a shaker, then centrifuged and a solution of bromocresol purple is added to the obtained precipitate, then thermostat under the same conditions, centrifuged, the optical density of the supernatant is measured and the activity of the samples is calculated by formula, wherein the value of said whole serum activity is 72.7÷91.6 % and activity value of low-molecular fraction of whey 21.2÷51.4 % are interpreted as normal, and if the whole serum activity is less than 72 % and the activity of the low-molecular serum fraction is less than 21 %, the said activity is reduced.;EFFECT: method is proposed to determine antimicrobial activity of whole serum and fraction of its antimicrobial peptides.;1 cl, 3 tbl, 3 ex
