INTEGRATED DIGITAL THREAD FOR DESIGN OPTIMIZATION OF ADDITIVE MANUFACTURE OF LIGHTWEIGHT STRUCTURES

There is provided a component formed by an additive manufacturing process consisting of three (3) areas: areas of voids without material, areas of solid material, and area of non-uniform grid cells. The areas are spatially distributed throughout the room as a function of load conditions such that the solid material is distributed in areas of first load paths and the grid cells are distributed in areas of second load paths that are smaller in magnitude than the first load paths. The grid cells are tailored to the limitations of the additive manufacturing process and machine resolution.
