The invention is in the field of analytics and directed to a method for determining fresh grazed grass intake over a grazing time period for a cow population, said method comprising the steps of: providing a number of milk samples that are collected from the cow population over said grazing time period and over a reference time period without fresh grass grazing; analyzing said milk samples and determine the amount of one or more biomarkers present in each of the milk samples; and comparing the amount of one or more biomarkers present in the milk during said grazing time period to the amount of one or more biomarkers present in the milk during the reference time period to obtain an indicator of fresh grazed grass intake for the cow population over the grazing time period.
