Disclosed is a set top box management method, comprising: when a dynamic host configuration protocol (DHCP) packet sent by a set top box is received, determining whether a session management resource of the set top box exists or not based on the DHCP packet; if it is determined that the session management resource exists, detecting whether service change occurs in the set top box or not based on the DHCP packet; and if it is detected that the service change occurs in the set top box, releasing the session management resource, and sending a DHCP release packet to a management server, so that the management server releases a management communication address allocated by the set top box in the management server based on the DHCP release packet.
