The present disclosure provides a method and system for identifying macro-bends in at least one test fiber. The method includes generating a modulated light pulse and scrambling the polarization state of the modulated light pulse to a random polarization state. The method includes injecting modulated light pulses for at least one test fiber, receiving backscattered light pulses, and splitting the backscattered light pulses into a first light component and a second light component. The method includes measuring a first power of a first light component of a back scattered light pulse and a second power of a second light component. The method includes macro-bending identification through discrete calculation of polarization dependency loss as a function of distance and peak analysis of one or more coordinates of one or more traces.
