FIELD: soil science.;SUBSTANCE: invention relates to soil science and concerns a method for instrumental determination of thickness and boundaries of occurrence of organogenic horizons in a soil profile. Method includes digital survey of soil profile in infrared spectral range by equipment, which enables to recalculate digital values of image pixels into two-dimensional array of brightness temperature data. Boundary of organogenic horizons is defined as a family of points on columns of the image, in which the linear regression function discontinuously changes the slope of the inclination angle. Filming is carried out perpendicular to the wall of the cut at distance of 40–60 cm in range of 7.5 to 14 mcm, with radiometric resolution of not less than 0.1 °C and spatial resolution of not less than 1×1 cm. Analysis and construction of the profile circuit is carried out by processing two-dimensional numeric data sets with a table processor.;EFFECT: technical result consists in providing the possibility of establishing a visually indistinguishable boundary of horizons and automatic construction of a scheme of an organogenic horizon of the soil profile.;1 cl, 2 dwg
