FIELD: biochemistry.;SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a mutant tobacco plant cell having a reduced level of nornicotine compared to a wild type tobacco plant cell, as well as to a tobacco plant, a plant material and a tobacco composition containing said cell. Also disclosed are a method for reducing the level of nornicotine in a tobacco plant, a method for reducing the level of N-nitrosonicotine (NNN) in a tobacco plant, as well as a method for reducing levels of nornicotine and N-nitrosonicotine (NNN) in a tobacco plant.
