Ball joint having an inner ring 3 and an outer ring 2, the inner ring has a bore 10 with a cylindrical portion 11, and a sleeve liner 12 mounted in the cylindrical portion 11. The sleeve 12 protects the inner ring 3 when a shaft is installed in use. The sleeve is made of wear-resistant material, which may be a copper alloy. The sleeve may have a cylindrical outer surface to engage with the cylindrical portion 11 of the bore 10. The inner ring 3 may have a shoulder 15, and the sleeve 12 may have a lip 19 to ensure correct positioning. A nut [Fig 4, 23] with a threaded outer surface [Fig 4, 24] may engage with threads [Fig 4, 25] on the inner ring; or the inner ring 3 may be crimped [Fig 2, 16] to form a recess [Fig 2, 17] and a chamfer [Fig 2, 18] to retain the sleeve 12.
