The invention relates to a method of copper alloy coating articles such as fabric, netting and reinforcement materials comprising glass or carbon fibres for example. A polymeric or poly-epoxide binder 11 binds the copper alloy powder particles 10 to the article or substrate to be coated or to a carrier 12 such as adhesive paper or a rubber bottom surface of a carpet. The coating may be applied to ceramics, steels, aluminium and other metallic substrates. The flexibility permits a wide range of uses. The coating provides an antimicrobial effect. Applications to industrial and consumer products may also include application to face masks, gloves, safety helmets, artificial leather, worktops, toilets, grips, touch surfaces, door parts, ships, brewing equipment, aqua-farming apparatus, trays, phones, electric switches, plugs and buttons and inside baths, pools, air conditioning units, washing machines, water filter apparatus, pipes and tubing, for example. The particles may be 30 to 300 microns in diameter. The article may be rolled after being coated, producing a 3 dimensional structure.
