The invention relates to a method for straightening a metal shaft (10) with a longitudinal axis which comprises: - an initial step (E1) of locating the angular position of an arrow (12) of the shaft (10) on at least one determined section (14); - a straightening step (E3) which consists in plastically deforming the shaft (10) under the action of a radial strain hardening force (Br) to reduce the deflection (12 ); characterized in that the straightening step (E3) consists in rotating the shaft (10) relative to a fixed frame and in continuously applying a radial work hardening force (Br), in a direction of fixed application with respect to the fixed frame, on the determined section (14), the intensity of the radial work hardening force (Br) varying progressively between a maximum value (Bmax) and a minimum value (Bmin).
