У статті досліджено ключову для постколоніальних студій категорію Іншого, розглянуто праці провідних представників постколоніальної критики і виокремлено теоретичні моделі для викриття та аналізу Іншого у літературному творі.ud(The article deals with the category of the Other that represents a colony, a lower race and a primitive culture. Since the 1970-s it has become the key concept of the postcolonial discourse and of the post-colonial literature. The discourse of the Other is represented in literary works as the domination of one culture (colonizer, Empire of the West) over the other (colonized, colony, East) (according to Edward Said’s theory). These interdependent units co-exist and, on the one hand, provoke further political strategies of character’s colonization and, on the other hand, foment a rebellion of the Other against the oppression.udAccording to Homi Bhabha’s theory these two trends are ambivalently realized through mimicry and hybridization. Moreover, the author of the article analyses the concept of Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak who regards the Other as a colonized woman in the patriarchal society of men. With this feminist approach Spivak expands postcolonial criticism and, therefore, theoretically enrichesudthe discourse of the Other in feminist criticism. Thus, it is summarized that these theoretical models enable the researcher of the literary work to detect the oppressed characters and to analyze the ways and levels of their oppression.)
