Postgraduate Program in Linguistic, Majoring in TranslationudStudies. Sebelas Maret University of Surakarta).udObjectives: To identify and describe the technique, method and ideology ofudtranslation and the quality of medical terminology translation on Lecture NoteudKedokteran Klinis.udMethods: This was a descriptive, qualitative research. Focused on single case.udObjective data was taken from medical terminology of Lecture Notes on ClinicaludMedicine. Affective data was collected from 3 raters who gave information aboutudaccuracy, acceptability and readability of medical terminology translation on theudsubject book. Purposive sampling was applied in this research. Techniques ofudcollecting data were content analysis, questioner, and Focus Group Discussionud(FGD).udResults: The numbers of data were 643 of medical terminologies. The mostudfrequent technique which was applied to translate the medical terminology wasudcalque 233 (36,2%), and the second place was transposition 122 (19%),udnaturalized borrowing 115 (17,9%), amplification 47 (7,3%), pure borrowing 36ud(5,6%), Borrowing English- Latin 32 (5%), addition 19 (3%), borrowing Englishud– Greece 5 (0,8%), description 5 (0,8%), literal translation 4 (0,6%), inversion 3ud(0,5%). The accuracy, acceptability and readability of medical translation wasudinfluenced by calque technique and borrowing technique (naturalized, pure,udEnglish – Latin, English-Greece). The accuracy of the whole techniques wereud80,6%, acceptability 90,2% and readability: very easy 39,2%, easy 53,2%, andudonly 4,5% which was difficult. FGD recommended some notes to revise in orderudto improve the translation accuracy, acceptability and readability.udRecommendations: Calque, transposition, naturalized borrowing, amplification,udpure borrowing, borrowing English – Latin, addition, reduction, borrowingudEnglish – Greek, description, literal translation and inversion technique were usedudto translate the medical terminology of the subject book. Literal translationudmethod was used in this medical terminology translation, furthermore theudappropriate of translation ideology was foreignisation. The translation of medicaludterminology of this subject book was accurate, acceptable and readable. Theudrecommendations of FGD should be adhered to in order to improve the translationudaccuracy, acceptability and readability.
