Aim: This project is a study of the production system of the oil wells in the Shushuqui station in the Libertador area in the Ecuadorian Amazon District. The goal of this research is to assess if a proposed switch from a hydraulic pump to an electric submersible pump will result in an increase in net production, efficiency, and savings. As such, this project will compare the designs of the hydraulic and electrical equipment, as well as their ability to extract from existing deposits in the oil field. Method: Inflow performance curves (IPR) were used to determine the difference between the hydraulic and electric pumps as potential candidates for the well's artificial lift system. The analysis of these IPR curves and the electric pumps allow us to determine how to ensure optimum production at the site. This in turn allows us to determine which system will most efficiently increase production, bearing in mind both the technical analysis and the feasibility of the project. Results: Our calculations based off of the IPR curves revealed that by migrating the current artificial lift system (Hydraulic Pump) to an Electric Submersible pump, production at Shushuqui station will increase by up to 47%. In addition, our analysis of the data showed that migration to the electric submersible pump from the hydraulic pump would result in savings of $1.55 per barrel of oil.Conclusion: We conclude that it is highly advisable to migrate to the electric submersible pump system from the hydraulic pump system. The electric submersible pump system is vastly more efficient, and will result in significant savings as well as extraction from the Shushuqui station.
