摘要

Field evaluation tests of natural gas injection on a commercial 100 ton/daymunicipal solid waste combustor at Olmsted Waste-to-Energy, Rochester, Minnesota have been completed by the Institute of Gas Technology, Riley Stoker Corporation, Olmsted Waste-to-Energy, and Takuma Company, Ltd. These tests were the culmination of a four year development program that included two earlier successful test programs: (1) full-scale municipal solid waste (MSW) furnace characterization tests at Olmsted, and (2) extensive pilot-scale tests on a 3 million Btu/h pilot-scale MSW combustor located at the Riley Research Center in Worcester, Massachusetts. The results of the pilot-scale testing program showed that a 50 to 60 percent NOx reduction was attainable. Under Task 3 described herein, a full-scale natural gas injection system was designed and retrofitted by IGT and Riley to Unit No. 1 at the Olmsted Waste-to-Energy Facility. The tests were conducted in December 1990 and January 1991. The results show that NOx can be reduced by 60 percent, CO can be reduced by 50 percent, and the excess air can be maintained at 40 percent.
