Safety of High Speed Magnetic Levitation Transportation Systems. Comparison ofU.S. and Foreign Safety Requirements for Application to U.S. Maglev Systems

The use of magnetically levitated (maglev) vehicles for high-speed guided groundtransportation has been proposed for passenger operations in the United States. As a result, a need exists for the assessment for the safety implications of this new form of technology to ensure passenger safety. This report contains the results of a detailed review of safety requirements to evaluate their suitability to maglev operations in the U.S. environment.
