摘要

In 1992 a pilot study was conducted to investigate if the occurrence of scars onthe shell of Arctica islandica (a large bivalve mollusc) was related to fishery activities. The results of this study mainly refer to beam trawl fishing as this is the most important type of fishing in the area studied. By analyzing a large number of shells for the presence and nature of the damage, it was attempted to gain more insight into the relation between bottom fishery and the damage, on Arctica. Within this analysis, shells from the northern, central and southern North Sea were compared.
