摘要

The study of a microregion in Madagascar illustrates important linkages and synergies between population growth, unsustainable agriculture, and natural resource decline. Further, the study shows that agricultural development has been hampered by the lack of adequate marketing, road infrastructure, extension services, credit, and inputs. Efforts to promote agricultural intensification and diversification will depend on how effectively the country can address these constraints. The study suggests that, in the short run, the government should place a high priority on measures that will improve factor and product markets, promote the use of improved technology and inputs, and expand infrastructure.
