Treatment of Common Non-Cancerous Uterine Conditions: Issues for Research.Conference Summary. Held in Long Island, New York in May 1994

The report summarizes the recommendations of a May 1994 AHCPR-sponsoredconference on hysterectomy and alternative treatments for common non-cancerous uterine problems. The purpose of the conference was to assess the state of the science on this important topic, and to identify critical areas for effectiveness research. To do so, AHCPR brought together a diverse group of experts from around the country to develop research agendas on treatment options for major non-cancerous uterine conditions, including: uterine fibroids; endometriosis; pelvic prolapse and urinary dysfunction; and dysfunctional uterine bleeding and chronic pelvic pain. Participants also reviewed an extensive bibliography, which is included in the publication.
