摘要

Identical saddle fittings are used on polyethylene gas distribution pipe of thesame diameter but different wall thickness. The objective of this study was to determine the effect of pipe wall thickness on saddle fusion integrity. Several saddle joints were made at the manufacturers' recommended conditions, while only the wall thickness was varied. When making most of the joints, thermocouples were used to determine the temperatures at 10 saddle and pipe locations during heating. The saddle joints were also cut into test specimens and subjected to shear impact testing in order to determine the strength of the joints. There was no measurable effect of pipe wall thickness on saddle fusion quality (defined by the average shear impact energy of each joint).
