Hispanic Gerontological Traineeship Program. Final Report. Procedures Manual

The Hispanic Gerontological Traineeship Program (HGTP) operated as ademonstration/model project under Title IV of the Older Americans Act. Its goal sought to increase the Hispanic elderly's access to, and use of, needed social services; to increase the number of qualified Hispanics available for employment in the field of aging at the administration level; to promote development and placement of Hispanics as administrators where policy-making and program planning take place; to increase the cultural sensitivity of the aging network and other organizations in planning and carrying out programs that include the Hispanic elderly; and to assist the Aging Network and other agencies to recruit, train and maintain Hispanic administrators and other Hispanic professional staff. Project objectives included recruitment, selection, and placement of eight Hispanic professionals in paid, six-month, aging-related traineeships in the Aging Network and in private sector aging-related jobs; develop and furnish management training; technical assistance and guidance to Hispanic interns and the host agencies where they are placed; and develop a training program designed to assure ongoing recruitment and employment of Hispanics in the field of aging.
