Savage Rapids Diversion Dam was orginally constructed by private interest in 1921and was rehabilitated by Reclamation in 1953 and 1954. Savage Rapids Diversion Dam is located in Emery County on the Rogue River about 5 miles east from the town of Grants Pass, Oregon. The dam is a feature of the Grants Pass Irrigation Project, and diverts water for irrigation, hydroelectric power production, recreation, fish and wildlife conservation, and flood control. Savage Rapids Diversion Dam is a multipurpose, combination concrete arch and gravity structure. The first seven bays of the right portion of the dam are of multiple arch construction with buttresses on 25-foot centers. The remaining nine bays are concrete gravity sections. The dam has a structural height of 44 feet, a hydrualic height of 30 feet and an overflow section 395 feet long with a crest at elevation 953. Both abutments of the dam have fish ladders.
