The variable dynamic testbed vehicle (VDTV) was proposed as having the following211u001emajor subsystems: Front steer by wire, Rear steer, Front and rear active anti-211u001eroll bars, Front and rear controllable shock absorbers, Steering wheel torque 211u001econtrol, Throttle by wire, Brake by wire, Throttle feel (throttle pedal force 211u001econtrol), Brake feel (brake pedal force control), Anti-lock brake subsystem, Yaw 211u001econtrol. Because a potential overrun of cost has been predicted, it was decided 211u001eto consider elimination of several subsystems, including throttle feel, brake 211u001efeel and rear steer. As an alternative to complete elimination of rear steer, a 211u001ereduced cost rear steer subsystem was suggested. This alternative subsystem makes 211u001euse of the available toe change adjustment, therefore is limited to one to two 211u001edegrees of rear steer.
