Implicit Dispersive Transport Algorithm for the U.S. Geological Survey MOC3D211 Solute-Transport Model

The report documents an extension to the U.S. Geological Survey MOC3D transport211u001emodel that incorporates an implicit-in-time difference approximation for the 211u001edispersive transport equation, including source/sink terms. The new implicit 211u001eprocedure eliminates several stability criteria required for the previous 211u001eexplicit formulation. This allows much larger transport time increments to be 211u001eused in dispersion-dominated problems. A description of the numerical method of 211u001ethe implicit dispersion calculation, the data-inut requirements and output 211u001eoptions, and the results of simulator testing and evaluation are presented.
