Substitution Reactions for the Detoxification of Hazardous Chemicals

This publication reports on the literature findings for the chemistry of211u001esuperoxide ion radical; it relates the methods of preparation, and its detection 211u001eand reactions with chloroaromatics. The literature findings on the destruction of 211u001ePCBs, etc., with polyethlene glycol are examined; and the role of polyethylene 211u001eglycol as a phase transfer agent in a basic medium and as a nucleophilic agent is 211u001ediscussed. In addition, a reaction mechanism for the BCD process of the EPA is 211u001egiven. Effects of various reaction parameters are noted. Fianlly, assessments of 211u001evarious processes are given.
