The manual takes the mustery out of cost accounting. Treatment programs,211u001eregardless of their funding sources, are faced with constant pressures to keep 211u001ecosts to a minimum and to justify every expenditure. Yet accounting for costs 211u001etakes time that might better be spent on treatment itself. Also, program staff 211u001etrained in helping people may not be proficient in tracking money. The National 211u001eInstitute on Drug Abuse, as part of its mission to assist programs that treat 211u001esubstance abusers, has sponsored research related to cost issues. The results of 211u001ethese studies are available to treatment programs at no cost as part of NIDA's 211u001epolicy of transferring technology as soon as possible.
