摘要

The author compiled a list of 40 plants and animals present in Delaware's ponds,211u001erivers, and bay waters that originated from elsewhere. For example, Hydrilla 211u001everticillata is an aquatic weed used widely as an aquarium plant. Originally 211u001eimported from Sri Lanka, it is now Delaware's number-one aquatic pest. The author 211u001ereviews the history and economic and ecological impacts of several non-indigenous 211u001especies in Delaware waters, common pathways of introduction for these organisms, 211u001eand current regulatory controls in Delaware and in other states. Guidelines for 211u001edeveloping an effective non-indigenous species policy for Delaware are included.
