Recycled Plastics for Highway Appurtenances

The overall objective of this research and development study is to develop211u001ehighway applications for recycled plastics that will have performance 211u001echaracteristics that are similar to, of not superior than, traditional designs. 211u001eThe primary applications are the use of recycled plastics for noise walls and 211u001eguardrail posts. However, due to lack of knowledge about the material, especially 211u001ethe long term performance, a significant portion of the effort was devoted toward 211u001ematerial testing and evaluation of mechanical and structural properties. 211u001eAcoustical and wind tests of the noise walls and analytical crash tests of the 211u001eguardrail posts are among other objectives of the study.
