Effluent Mixing Characteristics below Four Wastewater-Treatment Facilities in211 Southwestern Montana, 1997

This report evaluates the mixing characteristics of streams receiving the211u001eeffluent from four wastewater-treatment facilities in southwestern Montana. This 211u001einitial assessment of mixing is intended to assist the State in evaluating the 211u001esuitability of criteria currently used to estimate mixing lengths when 211u001eestablishing a mixing zone for wastewater-discharge permits. A second objective 211u001ewas to identify reliable and practical methods and water-quality parameters for 211u001eimproving future mixing zone assessments. Descriptions of the mixing zones, 211u001ehydrologic conditions, mixing-length calculations, and factors affecting mixing 211u001eare provided for the following four sites: Bozeman, Whitehall, Darby, and 211u001eHamilton.
