Embankment Widening Design Guidelines and Construction Procedures

In recent years failures have occurred in Indiana highway embankments where the211u001eembankments were widened and steepend in order to facilitate construction of 211u001elonger, safer acceleration and deceleration lanes, and to increase the traffic 211u001ecapacity and efficiency of existing thoroughfares. The objectives of this study 211u001ewere to investigate the cause of failure and to make recommendations for 211u001emodifying the existing INDOT Standard Specifications and construction guidelines 211u001ein an attempt to avoid similar failures in the future.
