This paper reviews electrical ignition phenomena from a wide perspective through211u001estatistical, modelling and experimental tools. A rather comprehensive concept of 211u001eelectrical ignition phenomena has been described. Several databases indicate that 211u001edefective cables leading to short circuit and ground shorts, as well as loose 211u001econnections leading to overheating, are the most common reasons for electrical 211u001eignitions. For modelling an overheated cable a mathematical model has been 211u001eproposed, which compares favorably with a limited set of experimental data.
