Perspectives on Three Issues Facing the Transportation Manager in the Nineties

The nineties have been a period of tremedous change for the transportation211u001eindustry. The Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act, Clean Air Act 211u001eAmendments, Americans with Disabilities Act, and increasing gender and ethnic 211u001ediversity have caused agencies to reassess their standard operating procedures. 211u001eGreater knowledge has been sought by senior level transportation officials in an 211u001eeffort to prepare agencies for the changing policy, including, seminars and 211u001eworkshops, revisions to policy manuals, and strengthened procedures regarding how 211u001eissues will be resolved. This research examines the level and nature of direct 211u001eimpacts on the transportation organization. Major legislative changes and 211u001emandates have imposed the need for changes in how transportation systems operate. 211u001eTransportation professionals continue to be challenged to develop plans and 211u001eimplement services that respond to mandates within the framework of the 211u001elegislation.
